Abigail DeVille uses scale to emphasize the impact of the BLM protests during the summer of 2020. Though the torch is large it is filled with arms and legs which are life-size to one of a human. This leads to the viewer asking the question of why did she choose to contrast the scale in this way. By doing this it makes the torch look larger than life while also grounding it.
She also uses the design element of repetition to emphasize the many, many lives lost and ruined through police brutality by repeating the use of arms and legs.
